Folks might not remember or simply weren't alive to see firsthand when Miss NJ (a Black woman) became Miss America in 1984 after the first Black Miss America, Vanessa Williams, lost her crown due to a scandal. Some would argue that she should have won in the first place! Well, here's a lil' rap from me, Mr. G, enjoy:

Don’t clap yet.
Why you all pressed?
I'm better than the rest
But I came up second best.

Then the crown went to Suzette;
"Kiss Me in the Rain"
I don’t care if I get wet...
Now gimme my respect!
Don't say it's not mine
On second note gimme my check!
Many years from now
they will forget me yeah I bet.
But many years from now I'll be
coastin' out of debt.
--wonder if something like that went threw her head 20+ years ago...
